You may think that because you have a personal computer, you can’t enjoy all the features of a larger one. That isn’t true. Most personal computers have the same capabilities as larger machines, with even a few advantages over larger models.
For example, your PC (an easy way to say personal computer as well as distinguish it from one that you use in a professional capacity) may actually work faster because it doesn’t have to navigate through all the programs that your computer at the office does. The one at work is also likely linked to a mainframe. Having a PC means you can access information faster.
Also, because it’s your PC, you can choose which of the many operating systems on the market that you want to use, something you might not be able to do at your job. Different operating systems support software designed exclusively for them, as well as software that can be used with all types of operating systems. Because of this, you actually have more choices in what you can add to your PC.
If you enjoy certain types of music, you probably know the different downloads that are available. On your office computer, you may not be able to utilize these downloads, but you can on your PC. There are some superb open source freeware sites such as VLC, Media Player, KM Player and BS Player that allow you to view and edit any multimedia files no matter what format they are in or what operating system you currently use.
The same thing goes for games. Your supervisor might not mind you playing some computer games during your downtime, such as those that come with operating systems and are already pre-installed, but installing others may be prohibited. You can, however, load any you want on your PC and take it with you to use during your breaks or lunch time.
You may be worried about having enough space on your PC. You can use external hard drives to store certain files, thus freeing up space on your PC’s main hard drive.
So, enjoy your PC with all its capabilities. You’re really not missing out!
